Capt Alex Badeh Jr., Director General, Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, at the webinar with journalists
The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, NSIB, has reassured the entire multimodal transportation logistics sector in the country of a better impact, as the Presidency begins to exercise oversight over the functions of the intermodal transportation incident and accident investigation agency.
Capt Alex Badeh Jr., the Director General of the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau, DG, NSIB, gave the assurance at a media chat with journalists reporting on activities in each of the intermodal transportation modes.
The DG emphasised that his job had never been interfered with while the bureau was under the supervision of the aviation ministry, and since the presidency became the overseer of the bureau’s functions, there wasn’t any whiff of interference, covertly or overtly, either from the presidency or the office of the National Security Adviser, NSA.
Capt Badeh Jr. explained that oversight by the presidency will enable the bureau to easily escalate critical issues with potential adverse effects on any mode of transport, whether air, water, road, or rail, to the presidency without an iota of delay.

He argued that the exalted office of the president was seriously concerned with the social and economic well-being of the country and its entire citizenry, so any slightest factor or element rearing its ugly head in any of the modes of transportation with the potential to jeopardise the objective of the federal government as it concerns each mode of transportation would be escalated to the presidency without any delay.
Hence, he expressed optimism that the reaction that would emanate from the office of the first citizen of the country would positively impact the transportation industry and would instigate a sense of accomplishment for the bureau and the entire transportation sector of the national economy
Badeh Jr. enthused by saying that no better blessing could ever have come the way of the nation’s intermodal transportation logistics through the NSIB’s current overseer- the Presidency- as the bureau would not be economical with critical information to the Presidency and reactions therefrom, which would in turn influence growth and development of multimodal transportation logistics in the country.
He added that the present overseer of the bureau is such that enhances the bureau’s autonomy, as there would be no jostling or flexing of muscles by any of the ministries over the control of the bureau’s operations.

Also, the helmsman of NSIB, now functioning under the Presidency for closer and unfettered oversight, said the bureau had covered necessary preliminary paraphernalia critical for efficient and effective service delivery of its mandate.
Badeh Jr. stated that the bureau had equipped its investigators with adequate training and the right exposure, which have enabled them to efficiently dissect rail, road and maritime incidents and accidents and conduct investigations with clinical finishing.
He explained that such expertise could be discerned in the foolproof safety recommendations the bureau always churned out along with its final reports, as could be seen on the bureau’s website.

As an eloquent testimony to the claim of competence of his crew of investigators, he cited the recent Maersk and Lady Martina collision that happened a few months ago in Lagos. He disclosed that investigators had obtained the vessel’s Voyage Data Recorder (VDR), downloaded its contents and conducted the analysis with laser precision at the bureau’s laboratory.
He announced that the report would soon be released for stakeholders’ and the general public’s consumption.
