A Private Jet
The Akwa Ibom State Executive Council has directed the office of the Secretary to the State Government to undertake a cost reduction management structure in respect of the state government’s official private jet.
Also, the state Exco ratified a recommendation from the Finance and General Purposes Committee (FGPC) on the approval for the release of funds for additional work at the airport and ongoing road contracts in the state.”
A media statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Iniobong Ememobong, said the government intended to put the aircraft into “more lucrative use.”

The statement said the council resolved to reduce the cost of governance in the face of dwindling economic conditions in the country hence, it could no longer bear the cost of maintaining the aircraft as a private jet but would prefer putting it into more lucrative use.
At the Exco meeting which was presided over by Governor Umo Eno, a far-reaching decision made was “predicated on the need for a drastic reduction in the cost of governance”
The statement also adduced reasons for the austere position of the state government including “the volatile exchange rate and the corresponding increase in the cost of maintenance of the private jet”.
While the aircraft will remain the state government’s asset, it will be put to more lucrative use.”
The media statement also revealed that the state government had registered 671, 410 vulnerable people in its social register across the 31 local governments for adequate socioeconomic attention to lift those identified above the poverty level.
