Audemars Piguet’s New Star Wheel Watch

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s 26,000 euro, special edition timepiece, Royal Oak Offshore, Selfwinding Chronograph, from the stable of the global brand, Audermer Piquet, which was the source of a 4-hour delay at Munich airport, last Wednesday, has been auctioned for 270,000 euro, about $300,000 Usd.

Recall that Arnie 76, took off from Los Angeles, USA, with his partner, Heather Milligan 49, and on safe landing at the Munich Franz Josef Strauss Airport, he fell victim to a customs officer’s arbitrary decision to search Arnie’s hand luggage.

It was the search that revealed a customs-built luxury watch was in Arnie’s luggage, and it was not declared to the customs hence, the protracted interrogation with the customs, and the criminal evasion of customs charges were pressed on him.

Schwarzenegger told his interrogators that he was on his way to attend a charity auction scheduled for Thursday, in Kitzbühel, Austria, to raise funds for the noble cause of preserving Mother Earth for its continuous habitation for mankind.

Before Arnie was let off the hook having explained the watch was from his private collections of 1999 and meant for auction to raise funds for a course to preserve the environment yet, he was slammed with fines of 35,000 euros! A tax of 4,000 euros and a penalty of 5,000 euros.

The star of the globally renown soap, Terminator left the airport which serves Munich and Upper Bavaria and is also known to the German Aeronautical Information Publication as Muenchen Airport.

However, because of the high level of success of the fundraising event in Austria, a section of the media had started pushing the notion that the entire media blitz the delay of Schwarzenegger at the airport could be a script from the master of the soap himself.

Other media had claimed they were hesitant to say that Schwarzenegger intentionally “forgot” to comply abinitio with the proper customs requirements and that the entire comedy of errors was most likely planned, by the former Governor of California, to seize upon the media attention surrounding the customs delay and protracted interrogation to draw attention to the charity auction.

Moreover, the highly successful outcome of the auction appeared to give credence to the conjectures because the watch auction was expected to fetch about USD 100,000.

But by a surprising twist at the auction, the watch ended up selling for nearly three times higher thus raking in almost USD 300,000, (€270,000) and bringing the total of the fund raised at the auction to about USD 1.4 million, (€1.3 million), and marked a new record high for the organizers.
