AVIATION UNIONS PICKET MMA2-all services at the terminal disrupted

Union members picketing MMA2, Lagos

The management of Bicourtney Aviation Services Limited, BASL, has unilaterally sacked 34 staff who coincidentally are all members of a particular union, Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, ATSSSAN, and the request for a meeting by the leadership of the union to agree on the severance benefits was met with deaf ears hence, the workers swung into action by blocking access to the terminal for staff and the very unlucky but innocent passengers.

At the media briefing ahead of today’s picketing, the Deputy General Secretary of ATSSSAN, Comrade Frances Akinjole, a barrister at law, titled the statement, BI-COURTNEY AVIATION SERVICES LIMITED: A CASE OF UNREPENTANT SLAVE MASTER.

With an aura of disappointment, the union opening statement reads thus, “It is disheartening that we have to invite your attention to a rendition of this type of melancholic renaissance of a dark age which we thought we had buried in the sand of time”.

ATSSSAN Scribe said, “Cases of termination without recourse to due processes were numerous and were all reported to the union’s secretariat

And exit payment obviously became a very big issue for bicourtney management to honour.
Akinjole said that “non-quick resolution of the matters became an issue with our members at Bi-Courtney. Workers’ Congresses were held with resolutions passed, and BASL Management remained adamantly uncooperative”.

He said the union had since been patiently waiting for a reversal of management ignoble acts to no avail hence we’re bringing the matter to the people’s court.

Akinjole however declared that “It is, therefore, our genuine presumption that we shall not be held liable for any consequential effects of our resolve to protect the interests of our members and union as a whole in the best available ways and means to us”.
An injury to one, is injury to all!

However, less than 24 hours after presenting the matter in the people’s court, the union in the wee hours of today began picketing the domestic terminal two of the Murtala Muhammed Airport, MMA2.
