Centre for Aviation, CAPA, to Host World Summit, Awards for Excellence

The British Overseas Territory, Gibraltar, through its internationally renowned Centre for Aviation, CAPA, a subsidiary of Aviation Week Network, will in December 2022, host the CAPA World Aviation Summit & Awards for Excellence.
The famous two-day summit which had been stalled since 2019 due to the COVID-19 pandemic would be staged this year both on zoom and in-person event with full observance of the Coronavirus biosafety protocols.
According to the statement issued by the Centre for Aviation, CAPA, this year’s summit would usher in the return of CAPA’s pre-eminent Awards for Excellence, which was inaugurated in 2003 to recognize successful airlines and airports based in the Asia Pacific region. The award had since 2012 been widened to cover the global air transport industry.
In the media statement, CAPA Content & Marketing Director, Marco Navarria was quoted to have expressed the optimism that, “the return of CAPA’s pre-eminent aviation and travel industry event, the World Aviation Summit & Awards for Excellence…. will bring the leaders of our sector to Gibraltar.”
Marco Navarria was quoted to have said further that, “nothing can truly replace the buzz inside a CAPA Summit room created by hundreds of travel industry representatives connecting face-to-face, so we are eager to continue to deliver in-person events in this new year,” he added.
Gibraltar’s Minister for Commercial Aviation, the Hon Vijay Daryanani MP was quoted to have described the impending event as an “extremely prestigious event in the world’s aviation calendar”.
He expressed his longing to welcoming “delegates from all over the world …. the top airline executives visiting Gibraltar and this will certainly put our brand in the upper echelons of this industry,” he said.
The statement averred that, “with the world still reeling from the impacts of the pandemic, the Summit will tap into the post COVID-19 aviation industry and address the latest developments, challenges and strategic issues”

GIBRALTAR- Fact check
Gibraltar is a British Overseas Territory occupying a narrow peninsula of Spain’s southern Mediterranean coast, just northeast of the Strait of Gibraltar, on the east side of the Bay of Gibraltar (Bay of Algeciras), and directly south of the Spanish city of La Línea.
The territory is dominated by the Rock of Gibraltar, a 426m-high limestone ridge. First settlers at the territory were the Moors. They settled there in the Middle Ages. They were later ruled by Spain, the outpost was ceded to the British in 1713.
Historical and empirical layers of fortifications include the remains of a 14th-century Moorish Castle and the 18th century Great Siege Tunnels, which were expanded during the second world war, WW II.
