CORONA VIRUS: FG Installs Remote Sensors To Screen Passengers At The Airports

The Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Health has installed a Health equipment with remote sensors for assessing the health of each of the passengers that arrives in the country through the international airports, and with the obligation of immigration and customs formalities, passengers from international flight are being made to pass through the immigration formalities to expose them to the remote assessment, which is electronically done speedily and more often, without the passengers noticing anything.
The Minister of Health, Dr Emmanuel Osagie Ehanire, made the disclosure this morning at a press briefing with health and travel journalists in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja.
He said all the passengers arriving the country through international flights will have their health passively profiled and those with outstanding symptoms are called aside for extra medical attention while those with no issue pass through the immigration unhindered.
Dr Ehanire said, the ministry of health through the airport health officers, was in collaboration with the immigration, customs, airport managers, the Federal Airports Authority Of Nigeria, FAAN, the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, to ensure no passenger skip the passive screening and other strategic process installed at the airport and to accost anyone with symptoms that could graduate to COVID19 (novel Corona Virus) case in Nigeria.
It will be recalled that last Friday, the Health Minister at a press briefing announced that “The Government of Nigeria, through the Federal Ministry of Health has been strengthening measures to ensure that the outbreak in Nigeria is controlled and contained quickly’’.
Ehanire said the Multi-sectoral Coronavirus Preparedness Group led by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) had immediately activated its National Emergency Operations Centre and will work closely with Lagos State Health authorities to respond to this case and implement firm control measures
It can also be recalled that the press conference by the Health Minister, came barely twenty-four hours after the Director-General, Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, Capt Nuhu Musa, personally issued a press statement and announced that all aviation agencies and the airport health operatives had synced their operations to prevent slip in profiling passengers from all international airlines to the country.
In a Press Conference by the Health Minister last Friday, he confirmed that the only case making the rounds in the nation’s news mill and narrated thus; ‘The confirmed case is an Italian citizen who works in Nigeria and returned from Milan, Italy to Lagos, Nigeria on 25th February 2020. He was confirmed by the Virology Laboratory of the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, part of the Laboratory Network of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and is being managed at the Infectious Disease Hospital in Yaba, Lagos’’.
Dr Emmmanuel Ehinare spoke further that, ‘’Prior to the case in Nigeria, just two cases have been reported in the African region, from Egypt and Algeria. Coronavirus has spread from China to Asia, Europe, North and South America. Corona Virus has already killed more than 2,800 people and infected more than 83,000 worldwide.’’
