A ray of hope for succour from the Federal Government to all domestic schedule operators in Nigeria has been mentioned by the House Committee Chairman on Aviation, Hon. Nnolim Nnaji.
Honourable Nnaji hinted that the federal government will find ways and means to alleviate losses of the domestic operators occasioned by the total lockdown in the country while the airliners had also been persuaded not to abandon their staff in the face of the general hardship that prevails in the country due to the COVID-19 pandemic that had nearly grounded the world’s commercial activities.
The House Committee Chairman in a media statement said his appeal on staff retention at this hard time is directed primarily to Max air who had formally laid off and told them that there will not be salary to the workers until the airline resumes operations.
He urged airlines, ground handlers, caterers, travel agencies and all organisations providing ancillary services to exhibit some modicum of magnanimity by finding the way to help share the burden with their staff instead of laying them off which could cause dementia to numerous of the workers.
The legislator called on the Hon Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sariki, to intervene and hold talks with the various stakeholders in the industry to avoid ripple effects of Max Air action.
The aviation committee chairman assured that as soon as the prevailing pandemic is eradicated, work would resume at an accelerated speed and new date of commissioning of the airport would be announced.
Hon. Nnaji was equally full of praises for the Governor of Enugu State Rt. Honourable Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the way and manner he mobilized materials and human resources to curtail the spread of Coronavirus in Enugu.
He also urged the citizens of the state to cooperate with Enugu State government by sticking to the instruction given on Stay at home and social distancing
