Seating South West Governors At A Recent Meeting
All roads today lead to the root of excellent governance and leadership in development among the regions in Nigeria pre-independence and arguably till date. That is the old Oyo State Government Secretariat where the idea of Western Nigeria Development Corporation was ventilated and became the leading light for other regions.
That idea brought about the construction of the then-tallest, 18-storey building in Africa, House for the farmers, named Coacoa House, (revenue from cocoa export was invested in the construction), in Ibadan. It also gave vent to the first industrial state in Nigeria, the Ikeja industrial estate, perhaps the first in Africa. The first television station in Africa even ahead of France in Europe, to mention but a few.
Far from being Fortuitous, the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries, South West Nigeria, (ARHOSPS –SWN) in consultation with Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, (DAWN), is set to present a book titled “Proposed Plan of Action for Economic Development of South West Nigeria,” to the Governors of Southwest States – Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun and Oyo States.

A statement signed by the Chairman of the Planning Committee of the event, Alhaji Adekunle Adegbite, said the book highlights achievements of South-Western States, and provides insights and suggestions to the Governors on ways to enhance governance for prosperity of the region.
According to Adegbite, the book covers topics on Security Improvement Strategies, Health Development, Energy and Solid Minerals, Transportation and Regional Development, Public Service Development as well as Governance and Nation Building, among others.
“Dignitaries from the South-West Region will attend the ceremony scheduled for Thursday, 22nd May 2025, at the New Hall of Oyo State Local Government Staff Training School, Secretariat, Ibadan, from 10:30 a.m.,” Adegbite said.
