Delta Emergency Exit Slide Falls Off Mid-Air

A 33-year old aircraft, Boeing 767 jet, operated by Delta Airlines has made an emergency air return at the John F. Kennedy International Airport, barely 35 minutes after it safely took off.
The crew reported that the emergency slide at the emergency exit door fell off the Delta passenger jet shortly after takeoff
A statement by the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, enunciated that the pilots of Delta Air Lines Flight 520, from New York to Los Angeles, last Friday, noted a strong vibration quickly followed by a bang not long after takeoff.
Hence, the pilot called the tower and requested clearance for an emergency landing which was expressly granted at the airport he left barely 35 minutes.
A media statement by Delta on it X handle claimed that the crew on safe landing, conducted an inspection in which was discovered that an emergency slide from one of the Boeing 767’s exits had fallen off the aircraft.
Furthermore, the discovery left no one in doubt that, it was in the process of a forceful separation of the emergency slide, it generated the noise which was heard by the Captain, and that the bang ocurred when the slide got totally detached from the hull.
The statement further revealed that the Delta Crew had embarked on a spirited search to determine where the slide landed.
The airline statement averred that “Delta is fully supporting the retrieval efforts and will fully cooperate in the investigations.”
According to the Federal Aviation Administration, FAA, the plane had been taken out of service and the passengers were placed on another flight to Los Angeles.
In the same vein, the National Transportation Safety Board, NTSB, had announced that the incident will be investigated
