Boeing 777 in service
A Boeing 777 aircraft in service for just two days in the fleet of Ethiopian Airlines, ET, conducted a successful air return on its Addis Ababa to Dubai route over the weekend.
The Ethiopian Airlines’ Boeing 777 aircraft with registration mark ET612 reportedly departed the Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa, at 23.21hrs local time on Saturday, 14th December 2024, and was logged with about 30 minutes late for departure.
However, about 29 minutes into the flight, the aircraft began a descent and a subsequent u-turn, while the Commander called the tower and requested an emergency landing for flight number 7700.
After being airborne for about an hour, the Boeing 777 landed safely without further ado at about 00.29 local time.
Checks conducted by aviationsourcenews.com revealed that the Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 777 involved in the air return was only delivered about 48 hours before the aborted flight as ET-BBG.
Further checks revealed that the aircraft is 4.9 years young.

Industry records further revealed that the aircraft was initially meant for delivery to China Southern Airlines, but it never happened for a reason, not in the public domain.
Hence, the aircraft was placed in storage in Victorville, California, USA, between March 2022 and 10th December 2024, until its delivery on 11th December.
It was reliably gathered that by 12th December, the aircraft was deployed for commercial service as ET-BBG.
Succinctly put, the aircraft was merely in service barely two days before the air return.
According to a source close to ET headquarters in Bole, the incident investigation had begun, as Boeing had also signified her interest in the investigation.
