DRIVERS DAY: Lagos to appreciate diligent, skilful drivers with integrity

Drivers in Lagos State who voluntarily complied with the state government’s regulations on safe driving, and religiously procure roadworthiness certificates for their vehicles through prescribed but adequate maintenance, will be publicly recognized and bestow an award for their due diligence
This is the rationale for the much-touted Drivers’ Appreciation Day, which will be coming up next Thursday, at the Ekofm multipurpose hall, Alausa, Ikeja.
The forthcoming Drivers Day would be the second edition since its inauguration in 2019. Also, this year’s edition is jointly put together by the Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, LASDRI, Lagos State Vehicle Inspection Service, LaVIS, Lagos Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service, LACVIS, and the Autoglobe Media Services.
According to the media statement from LASDRI, it quoted its General Manager, Alhaja Afusat Tiamiyu, to have called for active participation of all organizations and institutions in the road transport safety ecosystem.
The LASDRI helmswoman further stated that the Lagos Computerized Vehicle Inspection Service (LACVIS) was involved because a good and diligent driver would never emerge if the vehicle driven is not in top-notched but could threaten road safety through mal adjusted brake system, poor trafficator lights, frequent engine abnormally high temperature, among others.
Afusat Tiamiyu while announcing the event on a Radio Lagos talk show named, AWAYE, said apart from attending drivers refresher courses at the right intervals, the service level of the vehicle also plays a role.
She said further that, “if a driver is well schooled, the vehicle he is driving must also be in proper working condition. Therefore, it will be the major criteria for the selection of professional drivers that will be appreciated.” She noted.
She added that “participation in the Drivers’ Appreciation Day will not be limited to commercial transport drivers only, but will also include all categories of drivers in the employment of both the public and private sectors as well as non-professional drivers who voluntarily visit the institute for their yearly mandatory training”
In his contribution, the Chief Executive Officer, Autoglobe Media Services, Chief Tunde Bola Ojo, said the event is in tandem with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu notion of inspiring motorists to embrace voluntary compliance to all road safety rules and regulations rather than being chased to enforce.
Chief Ojo enthused, “I strongly believe by appreciating drivers, especially those who voluntarily comply yearly, we will be able to draw commitment from them and make our roads safer for the motoring public”. He said
