Driving against the traffic terminates innocent life on the right of way

A yet-to-be-identified private car owner has been killed on Thursday morning, by a commercial bus driver who chose to drive against the flow of traffic (One-way) around the Meiran area of Lagos.

The driver of the commercial Volkswagen Khombi bus, popularly called Farragon, (in Nigeria) was reported to be on top speed while maintaining the one-way and suddenly had a head-on collision with a private Honda Civic car with registration number, EPE 666 BC.

The Volkswagen Kombi bus drove against the flow of traffic and became blood guilty before God and man.

The accident which occurred around 9:30 am, shortly after the train plowed into a Lagos state government staff bus at the PWD intersection, Ikeja-Oshodi road, inflicted neck injury on the Honda car driver and immediately started bleeding heavily before he passed out.

According to a media statement by the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, “It was confirmed that the dead driver was living in Meiran Estate, which is very close to the scene of the accident.”

The statement narrated that, “Lastma Officials who were the first emergency responders handed over the corpse to his relatives who came out from the estate”.

The driver of the Honda Civic car died shortly after the collision.

It was reported the driver of the Kombi bus escaped arrest but his vehicle and the car of the deceased were handed over to the Policemen from Meiran Police Station.

Speaking on the unfortunate incident, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, warned motorists especially private/commercial, to desist from disobeying traffic laws, particularly that of driving against the traffic (one-way).

According to General Manager, “driving against traffic (One-way) is a death trap waiting to happen.
