Farnborough Trade Fair Returns 4 Years After, Awakens Nostalgia About Nigeria Air

One of the renowned trade fairs for aviation, aerospace and their ancillary enterprises, Farnborough International Airshow, has flagged off the 2022 edition on Monday, 18th July 2022. Top government officials, aviation management firms, aircraft manufacturers, and aerospace gurus, were in attendance to add colour to the event at the Farnborough Exhibition and Conference Centre, Hampshire.
The air show which opened with pump and pageantry had all the names of corporate organizations that had impacted air travel in one form or the other in attendance. From aerospace to defence and sustainability.
It was at the last event four years ago, in the same venue, that the Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, introduced the national airline to the world.
To buttress the claim of the project, a livery for the national airline though designed somewhere in the United Arab Emirates, UAE, was unveiled to the whole world.
However, 1460 days flew by, the over 200 million people are still grappling with the essential preliminaries to be accomplished before flying the flag of the most populous black nation and the giant of Africa in the skies.
There is no iota of doubt that each edition of the air shows in Farnborough, without the much vaunted Nigeria Air in the sky, will continue to provoke sober reflection and in the same breath an opportunity to recalibrate our processes and procedures of executing a public project to fruition.
May Nigeria not again goes to the market without products or services to sell yet, she incurred a humongous cost without any clue as to recoup the scarce and hard-earned taxpayers’ resources invested in the bland marketing.
Albeit, at this year’s edition, those that stole the centre stage were organizations that had made far-reaching progress in electric propulsion in their equipment airspace/aviation engineering.
Few of the military genres on display were the United States Air Force, USAF F35 which Flew past, the British Royal Air force, the Black Eagles Display Team conducted a thrilling fly-past. Also, the Red Arrows made an impressive fly-past, the Royal Air force RAF P-8, colourfully Fly-past, and RAF Typhoon – Formation Fly-past, thus extolling the might of the ancestral mother of the British commonwealth.
Others who flew past outside of the military were, T129 ATAK, Hurkus, Embraer E190-E2 Tech Shark, Boeing 777X, Boeing 737-10, and Airbus A350-900.
Boeing took the shine off others as visitors to the event were enthralled by the exciting breathtaking display by the renowned aero manufacturing giant.
One major high point of day one of the five days’ air show was the display of the “AIR TAXI”. The developers told guests at its stand that the air taxi mode of transport could be ready within six years and will mean journeys from London to Heathrow will take just 15 minutes.
The outgoing British Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, a journalist, an editor and a politician, was excited about his presence at the fair since 2018 when the last one was held.
Boris Johnson had an audience with the renowned British astronaut, Tim Peake and Dr Paul Bate, the Chief Executive Officer, of the UK Space Agency.
The Prime Minister in his speech to the audience enthused, “I’m glad that I finally made it to Farnborough, this famous air show, in the climactic weeks of my time as Prime Minister”.
COMBATING HEAT WAVE
The announcement from the meteorology department of a debilitating heatwave and the stringent warning for visitors and citizens to be conscious of their movement and ensure adequate hydration in their bodies and avoid medical emergencies was timely and useful.
Hence the organizers of the event ensured visitors to the pavilion were given bottled water and adequate water dispensing machines were provided in all the halls for the event.
The organizers issue the following guideline for everyone at the fair, “to ensure the comfort of our guests, attendees, exhibitors and staff on-site throughout the week, we put in place increased facilities and processes in place to support your presence at the show. We have water refill points in all key public areas, air conditioners A/C throughout each of the exhibition halls and shaded areas across the show site”.
The air display enters its second day today, Tuesday, 19th July 2022. A Series of exciting activities have been scheduled to afford the about 1,500 exhibitors to present their products and services to the global community at one of the world’s biggest aerospace and defence trade shows.
