Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu Commiserates with Families whose Relations Are Victims of the Ojuelegba Container Accident

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, has expressed his heartfelt condolence to those who lost their relations and friends in the Ojuelegba truck accident that occurred Sunday afternoon.
In a media statement signed by the Commissioner for Transportation, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde, the Governor promised that a thorough investigation will be conducted so that justice will be served.
Governor Sanwo-Olu hinted that the state government will be installing Vehicle/Truck barriers on the inward and outward sections of the Bridge after consultation with the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing.
The statement said the state executive council and the entire Lagosians share the grief of those who lost their loved ones in the accident and pray that the Almighty God will strengthen them at this difficult time to cope with the sudden loss.
Sanwo-Olu said that his government will continue to implement its Transport Master Plan, which contains safety strategies that will ensure our roads are safer.
According to the official account of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, the accident which occurred about 12:45 pm on Sunday, was between a 40ft container truck and a commercial bus (korope) with registration no KTU 921YG, had about 9 passengers who died immediately.
LASTMA reported that a preliminary investigation had revealed the 40ft container truck lost control while ascending the Ojuelegba bridge and fell on a fully loaded commercial bus (korope) which was equally in motion on Ojuelegba Bridge direct opposite Lagos Fire Service Station.
The only passenger rescued by LASTMA personnel was handed over to Medical personnel (Emergency Responder) who came to the accident scene along with Lastma Officials.
Other emergency responders at the scene included the Lagos State Fire Service, Lasema, and operatives of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, among others.
However, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Bolaji Oreagba, was quoted as warning motorists particularly commercial bus drivers to always be twice careful while driving beside trucks either on top of a bridge or on an expressway across the State.
He however consoled with families of those passengers that died during the accident and wish those hospitalized a quick recovery
