Lagos Issues Travel Advice: to shut down four railway level crossing beginning Sunday, 15th Nov.

As the Lagos-Ibadan Standard Rail Gauge project nears its completion, greater attention is now given to the numerous railway crossings in Lagos State, especially en route its terminal point at Lagos Apapa port.
Hence, another four points of Rail Level Crossing will be closed at alternate days beginning from Sunday, 15th November, when the rail crossing on Ilupeju will be shut down to all categories of motorists.
On Monday, the 16th November, the rail level crossing on Ogunmokun and that of Jibowu will be shut down to motorists. While on Wednesday, 18th November, the popular Yaba level crossing will also be shut down to allow engineers to conduct the track stress dispersion and locking at various level crossing joints of the Standard Gauge Railway.
A statement issued by the Ministry of Transportation explained that for each of the three days, the rail level road crossing will shut down each day, from 8 pm to 7 am.
Motorists are therefore advised to utilize alternative routes that have been provided during the daily closure to enhance free flow of traffic on the stated dates.
Accordingly, Motorists plying Ilupeju level crossing will be diverted to Ogunmokun, Yaba and Jibowu Crossing to access their desired destinations, so also, those who are to access Ogunmokun Road or access other areas from Ogunmokun are advised to use Ilupeju crossing to Mushin, Oshodi and Surulere for their desired destinations.
The statement further explained that the identified alternative routes will be used interchangeably to ease movement, with the assurance that Traffic Management Personnel will be on the ground to ensure the free flow of traffic during the construction period.
All the closures have been slated at night to minimize inconveniences in movement. Motorists are therefore implored to comply with the traffic directions put in place and obey LASTMA operatives to aid the smooth and uninterrupted flow of the construction schedule.
The State Government, however, appealed to residents, especially motorists that ply those corridors to endure the slight inconvenience as the rail project is aimed at achieving a seamless multi-modal transport system that will usher in the greatest good to the greatest number of commuters in the metropolis.
