LAGOS LIGHT RAIL: Traffic Diversion Begins 1st February 2022, at Yaba

As work on the first phase of the Redline, rail mass transit project progresses, the Lagos state government will from the midnight of Tuesday, 1st February to 16th February 2022, divert traffic from Yaba.

In a media statement from the transportation ministry of Lagos State, the two-week-long site activity will necessitate a diversion to protect Road users during the installation of Precast Beams.

According to the media statement signed by the transportation commissioner, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, “motorists heading to Muritala Mohammed way from Western Avenue will be diverted to Empire Road at Jibowu while traffic inbound Yaba will be diverted to Empire Road to access Western Avenue. In the same vein, motorists on Herbert Macaulay will be able to connect Empire Road to access Western Avenue for their desired destinations”

It reminded Lagosians that for the Redline train project which runs through Oyingbo to Agbado, the workers and the site will be cordoned off for the safety of the citizenry, adding that emergency vehicles will be on stand by to tow mechanical faulty vehicles along the axis.

He also stated that signages will be placed on the access roads with operatives of the State’s Traffic Management Authority to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences

The State Government reiterated its continuous commitment towards the development of transport infrastructure within the metropolis, maintaining that it is vital for the Multi-Modal Transportation System of the State Government which will, in turn, boost the economic prowess of the citizenry.
