Lagos State Urges Motor Park Operators to Register as the Grace Period Expires

Operators of motor vehicle parks in Lagos state, including articulated vehicle and truck parks, either commercial or noncommercial have been reminded that enforcement of registration of parks has begun and defaulters will be sanctioned in accordance with the Lagos state traffic laws of 2012 and as revised 2018.

Hence, the General Manager, Lagos State Parking Authority, LASPA, Mrs Adebisi Adelabu, appealed for cooperation from the citizens of Lagos State in her agency’s onerous task to effectively and efficiently regulate all forms of parking with the view to achieving smooth flow of traffic thus improving travel time for motorists in Lagos state, especially in the metropolis.

She noted that parking problems have been one of the thorniest issues affecting the economy and the environment adding that the State Government can no longer fold its hands, hence the need for a holistic approach towards regulating the causes and their effects.

The LASPA GM further explained that in line with the first pillar of the THEME’S Agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, of which Traffic Management and Transportation is key, parking space issues needed to be addressed to reduce travel time impeded upon by traffic and make the State a 21st-century running economy for its residents in the short and long term.

Adelabu maintained that the imbalance between parking demand and parking supply has been the main reason for the metropolis’ unregulated parking problems contributing to the traffic congestion, traffic accident, and environmental pollution which the agency is fervently poised to drastically mitigate.

Highlighting the agency’s statutory responsibilities further, the LASPA GM also stated that the agency is optimizing the On and Off-street parking supplies, Setbacks options, registration of existing private parks operators to maximize urban public spaces in finding lasting solutions to parking induced traffic snarl.

She also revealed that while the State Government is building and transforming the parking infrastructure within the metropolis, there is the need for the provision of available real-time parking information for city users planning which will inturns improve the overall quality of the parking system in Lagos state.

Recall that the agency, LASPA, had earlier announced that enforcement of motor parks registration would start by February but was later shifted to the 1st March 2022, to achieve a wider circulation of government intention and to encourage law-abiding operators to do the needful thus avoiding the wrath of the law
