LASDRI offers Lagos towing vehicle operators refresher course on road safety

The policy direction of the Lagos state government to improve travel experience in the metropolis is not limited to infrastructure development, special task forces on enforcement of traffic laws, but involves multidisciplinary approach which included intellectual development of major road users, the drivers, to inspire voluntary compliance when the right kind of road safety education is impacted on all shades of operators.

This informed the resolve of the management of Lagos State Drivers Institute, LASDRI, to take her training to the door step of critical stakeholders and the most recent is the National Towing Vehicle Owners Association of Nigeria, (NTVOA) Lagos State Chapter.

The training which took place at Ikorodu had 144 members in attendance who patiently went through the entire training modules for the program.

Getting participants in the mood for the training, the General Manager, Alhaja Afusat Tiamiyu, who was ably represented by the Director of Training, Mrs. Adeola Ajayi, said the onsite training was an approved outreach arrangement designed to take the training to some designated parks and garages for the yearly mandatory training and recertification exercise.

The General Manager told participants that they will be exposed to the rudiments of safe driving and reminded them of the basic road traffic rules and regulations that govern safe driving and the consequences of ignoring those safety rules and regulations especially as the students were involved in a special kind of operation which must ensure safety of their towing van, safety of the vehicle being towed and the safety of other road users.

She cautioned, “we can only be referred to as professional drivers when we successfully move our vehicles from one point to another without accident or causing any road impediments. Therefore, we have to be conversant with all the rules and regulations in operations across the State so as not to be on the wrong side of the law”, she said.

She encouraged participants to go beyond the basic training and venture into advance courses LASDRI offers at its Institute’s designated centers and annexes spread across the State for more comprehensive training.

On his part, the Lagos State Chairman of the Association, Mr. Christopher Opone Okeimute, expressed gratitude to the leadership of LASDRI for their concern in creating conducive environment for his members, NTVOA, to learn.

The Chairman enjoined all the participants to make use of what they have learnt to update their driving skills and put all they have been taught into good use for their own benefit and the safety of other road users.ik
