LASDRI Recertifies Sixty-Five Drivers from Lagos State Public Service

A total of sixty-five (65) drivers in the Lagos State Public Service have had their driving skills given a shot in the arm, with the view to becoming more savvy in safe driving thus preparing them to be able to contribute their quota to the T.H.E.M.E.S. agenda of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu.
The Transportation aspect of the agenda was identified as the terrain where drivers are concerned in adding value through adherence to traffic laws and abiding by safe driving principles at all times.
A skilful driver that is acquainted with the state’s traffic laws would operate within the bounds of the law thus promoting safe driving which will reduce to the barest minimum, road crashes and traffic jams, which will in turn impact positively on the Gross Domestic Product of Lagos State.
These were part of the tutorial from the General Manager, Lagos State Drivers’ Institute, LASDRI, Mrs Afusat Tiamiyu, to the drivers from the Public Service Office, PSO, who attended last Friday, the one-day refresher courses for professional drivers at the facility of LASDRI, in Oshodi.
Welcoming the participants to the training program, Mrs Afusat Tiamiyu, harped on the need for drivers to cultivate excellent work ethics and be disciplined in carrying out assigned tasks professionally as it will earn them respect and enable them to be proud of their profession as a driver.
She noted that drivers are very important to the development of the Lagos economy and therefore, must be up-to-date about the traffic laws and regulations that governed the transportation sector in the State.
The GM encouraged the trainees to always pay attention, especially to the minor details of their vehicles in order to promptly detect faults, just as she advised that all the knowledge acquired during the exercise must be put into practice at work.
Among the subjects taught during the training program included Automobile Fire & Management, Car Care & Maintenance, Road Signs & Markings as well as Drivers’ Responsibilities.
However, the General Manager made a clarion call to other Ministries, Departments and Government Agencies, to ensure their drivers do not skip refresher courses for the current fiscal year.
Moreover, Afusat Tiamiyu was full of appreciation to the Lagos State Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, for the opportunity granted the participants to acquire more knowledge from the citadel of drivers’ continue education in Nigeria.
