A painted Lagos State commercial bus but sadly used as a decoy to rob commuters
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority LASTMA have arrested three notorious ‘one chance’ armed robbers operating commercial bus transportation around Abule-Egba of Lagos state.
A media statement from LASTMA, signed by Adebayo Taofiq, Director, Public Affairs, confirmed that the robbers were arrested along with their operational vehicle, a painted ‘T4’ commercial bus with registration number APP 406 YE. They were arrested at the U-turn area of Abule-Egba.
According to the media statement, the preliminary investigation revealed that, although the bus was painted in Lagos state’s commercial bus colour, it was a decoy for unsuspecting passengers to board the vehicle, and later dispossess them of their valuables including money kept in the bank through their debit card.

The statement said when passersby noticed someone forcefully ejected from the moving bus, it attracted the attention of the generality of the public hence, the bus was given a hot chase.
LASTMA account said, the robbers operating the commercial bus “drove recklessly to evade arrest but through the support from the public, LASTMA officials controlling and managing traffic around the Abule-Egba axis were able to mobilize and effect arrest of the fleeing robbers.
Subsequently, two of the three suspects were later handed over to Policemen from the ‘Ile-Epo’ Police Division for further investigation, as one of them escaped with the Point of Sales, PoS machine, with which they divest victims of their hard-earned money saved in the bank.
However, Mr. Bakare Oki Olalekan, General Manager of LASTMA, appealed to members of the public particularly commuters to be very vigilant, and also cease boarding commercial buses by the roadside popularly called ‘So-le’.
