The containerized truck that runs over a motorboy
Operatives of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, (LASTMA), today apprehended the driver of a fully loaded containerized truck who, unknowingly crushed to death, a motor boy by MTN, inward Sunrise, along Oshodi – Apapa Expressway.
According to a media statement by LASTMA, a preliminary investigation had revealed that the driver of the fully loaded truck with registration number, T-1360LA, crushed a motor boy who was sleeping under the erstwhile parked truck.
The truck driver spiritedly mounted the driver’s seat, started the engine, and initiated movement in the company of other loaded trucks and headed inward to Tin Can Port Gate, Apapa.
However, immediately after the unfortunate incident occurred, and the motor boy was confirmed dead at a nearby hospital, the truck driver took to his heels.
Due to the efforts of the public-spirited persons available, the driver was given a hot chase in conjunction with LASTMA officials on the ground, led by Traffic Officer, Adams Lateef, ‘Zebra’ (Zone 13) Apapa, the fleeing driver was swiftly apprehended.
The LASTMA operatives at the scene later handed the truck driver to Policemen from the Trinity Police Division at Apapa, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Albeit, the LASTMA General Manager, Bakare Oki, made a fervent appeal to drivers to always walk around the truck to be engaged, to ascertain the safety of the truck environment before mounting the driver’s sit to initiate any form of motion, even if it was to warm the engine.
