All employers of labour in Lagos State have been reminded of the deadline for filing their annual tax returns which is on or before 31st January 2024, as stipulated by the Lagos state tax law.

The media statement from the Lagos Internal Revenue Service, LIRS, urged everyone carrying out business anywhere within the Lagos State territorial jurisdiction area to strictly comply with the law, as stiff sanction awaits defaulters, as enunciated in section 81 subsection 3, of the Personal Income Tax (Amendment) Act 2011.

In the statement signed by the Head of Corporate Communications, LIRS, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude, she persuaded everyone filing for the company’s tax to use the e-Tax portal for filing their tax returns.

The statement assured that LIRS had made a conscious effort to ensure the portal is user-friendly, convenient, and secured, adding that, “the e-Tax portal is designed for the convenience of taxpayers, making tax transactions easily accessible from the comfort of their homes or offices”.

To experience the ease of filing tax returns on the e-portal, the employer must initially generate a Tax Payer ID, which will enable employees’ Pay As You Earn, P.A.Y.E., income tax returns to be done through the e-Tax portal.

All employers of labour are also reminded of the exclusive platform for filing annual income tax returns in Lagos State thus; the LIRS e-Tax portal: https://etax.lirs.net, as manual filing is no longer permissible in Lagos State.

Anyone with any form of challenge while attempting to comply but encountering filing-related concerns, is advised to approach LIRS designated staff in all its various offices to assist them (taxpayers) in utilizing the e-Tax portal.

LIRS media statement urged all those concerned but desirous of further enlightenment are all encouraged to visit the agency’s website: www.lirs.gov.ng.

Better still, LIRS can be reached on all its social media platforms thus; @lirsgovng, reach out via email at etaxinfo@lirs.net, or contact the LIRS customer care: 0700CALL LIRS (0700-2255-5477).
