Arnold Schwarzenegger in the Customs office at Munich airport, showing off the pack of the contentious wristwatch
The famous Hollywood star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a former Governor of California in the US, has been involved in a badly written script which was performed on his arrival at a Munich airport yesterday, en route to Kitzbühel, for a climate change advocacy event scheduled for the evening of today, Thursday 18th January 2024.
76-year-old Arnie who departed from Los Angeles arrived at Munich Airport with her 49-year-old partner, Heather Milligan, at about 1.45 pm. While walking through border security, and immigration, a customs officer in what the Munich custom described as “a suspicion-free check without any specific reason”, courteously asked Arnie to step aside and open his luggage. The simple request turned out to be the opening scene of a four-hour drama that ensued.
According to a local news medium in Munich, BILD, the search by the unobstructive customs officer led to the discovery of a valuable Swiss luxury wristwatch brand, Audemars Piguet, in Schwarzenegger’s luggage.

A spokesman for the main customs office in Munich, Thomas Meister, said the watch should have been registered because it was an import – and they have now “initiated criminal tax proceedings”.
Arnie who holds dual citizenship of Austria and the US reportedly told his interrogators he was on his way to attend a charity auction scheduled for Thursday, in Kitzbühel, Austria, in respect of an advocacy program to preserve our environment.
He explained he had packed the luxury watch from his private collections intending to auction it off at the dinner scheduled ahead of the official start of his World Climate Summit, later today.
When Arnie sensed all the rationale he proffered in regards to his 26,000 euros watch fell onto deaf ears as he was slapped, with fines of 35,000 euros! A tax of 4,000 euros and a penalty of 5,000 euros, he called in his lawyer.

Another act, and scene ensued after the fines were pronounced and the celebrity was ready to settle the fines; his limitless credit card was rejected. The customs official explained that 50 percent of the customs fees, which was 17,500 euros, would be paid in CASH hence, his unlimited credit cards became a futility. Yet Schwarzenegger did not have up to that amount in euros on him.
However, when the shove was becoming a push, Arnie was accompanied to the bank by an airport employee!!! His partner who together with him jetted out from Los Angeles, Heather Milligan, was allegedly not allowed to accompany him to the bank, nor was any other confidant.
Arnold Schwarzenegger in anger told an airport correspondent in Munich, “This is the problem that Germany is suffering from. You can no longer see the forest for the trees.”
