Pilots urge to observe precautionary measures during adverse weather condition, passengers to cooperate

Pilots flying in the Nigerian air space have been cautioned to give more than the usual attention to weather reports especially as the raining season is getting into full throttle in the country.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA, sounded the warning in a bulletin to all pilots and operators flying in the nation’s airspace.
In the bulletin signed by the Director General, Capt Musa Nuhu, it cautioned pilots to look out for “severe thunderstorms and other hazardous weather which hamper flight operations especially now that the rain is here”
The statement called on pilots, traffic controllers and the passengers to cooperate because the rainy season and its effects on safety and efficiency of flight operations demands cooperation to ensure safety of air transport at all times.
The statement reminded pilots that depending on the weather situation at the airports, Air Traffic Controllers may temporarily close the airspace when the weather condition is not favourable.
It called on Flight Crews/Operators and Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) to ensure adherence to published aerodrome weather minima and Pilots urged to exercise maximum restraint whenever adverse weather is observed or forecast by NIMET.
The CAA reminded Pilots/Flight Crew members to obtain adequate departure, en-route and destination weather information and briefing from the Nigerian Meteorological Agency’s, NIMET Aerodrome Meteorological Offices prior to flight operations.
The statement also urged the Flight Crews/Operators and Air Traffic Controllers (ATC) to ensure adherence to published aerodrome weather minima.
The NCAA reiterated that “While the Authority enjoins all passengers to exercise patience and understanding during this period of heavy downpour, strict compliance to this warning is expected from all stakeholders as maximum sanction shall be imposed for non-compliance
