REDLINE METRO RAIL PROJECT: 6 Weeks Traffic Diversion At Muritala Muhammed Way, Yaba; 6 Months Diversion At Ojuelegba- Tejuosho Road

Beginning from Monday 7th March, the Lagos State Government will divert traffic for six weeks on the Muritala Mohammed Way, Yaba, in preparation for the 1st Phase of the Lagos Rail Mass Transit project- The redline metro train runs from Oyingbo to Agbado, and the road closure shall end on 15th April 2022, a period totalling six weeks.
In a statement released by the Ministry of Transportation, the Commissioner, Dr. Frederic Oladeinde explained that a lane will be barred from vehicular movement to extend the capacity of Muritala Mohammed way from one lane to two lanes.
The Commissioner also announced the extension of Ojuelegba/Tejuosho slip road which will commence simultaneously from Monday 7th March, 2022 to 30th September, 2022 for a duration of 6 months
According to the scheduled diversion plan for the construction period, traffic circulating Western Avenue, inbound Yaba will be diverted to Empire road to access Muritala Mohammed way, while traffic circulating Muritala Mohammed Way inbound Yaba will be diverted to Empire road to connect Western Avenue for the desired destinations.
Motorists on Herbert Macaulay inbound Yaba will also utilise Empire road to connect Western Avenue.
The Commissioner assured that the site of the construction will be cordoned off for safety of the citizenry, adding that emergency vehicles will be on the ground to tow faulty vehicles along the axis. He also stated that signage will be placed on the access roads while the operatives of Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, shall be available to manage traffic flow and minimize inconveniences.
Dr Frederic Oladeinde commended Motorists for their patience and cooperation and reiterated the State Government’s commitment to the development of transport infrastructure critical to the safe, efficient Multi-modal transportation system that will enhance economic wellbeing of Lagosians
