LOCAL GOVT VC HEADN FOR JAIL

The Vice Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government in Ekiti State, Grace Ogunleye, was arrested and remanded in prison custody for allegedly orchestrating her own kidnapping to settle financial disputes.

The “Abduction”: Mrs Ogunleye was initially reported missing on 20th of May 2026, after her vehicle was discovered abandoned along the Ipere–Iludun Ekiti road and her phone was switched off.

The “Rescue”: A joint operation by police, military, and local security operatives was launched, and it was announced that she was rescued unhurt on May 21.

The Twist: Following an investigation, it was discovered that the abduction was self-orchestrated. It was widely alleged that she staged the event to cover her inability to deliver on promises made to a politician following a financial exchange.

Arrest and Remand: Following preliminary findings, she was apprehended and subsequently remanded in prison.

Official Stance: The Executive Chairman of Ilejemeje Local Government, Pius Dada, publicly condemned the incident. He emphasised that the council would not shield anyone from prosecution, stating that “nobody is above the law”.
