Senator Hadi Abubakar Sirika, the immediate past Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has been appointed the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’Adua University (UMYU), Katsina State.
The appointment was announced in a media statement signed by Ibrahim Almu-Gafai, the Director of Press and Publicity, in the Office of the Secretary to the Katsina State Government.
Mr Almu-Gafai, in the statement quoted, the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Abdullahi Faskari, said that Senator Sirika’s appointment was based on the recognition of his outstanding qualities and performances in and out of public office and has exhibited over the years.
According to the Vanguard Newspaper report, the governor urged the appointee to bring his extensive experience to bear in his new assignment.
The media statement quoted Katsina State Governor, Dikko Radda, to have congratulated the new appointee and enthused further, “ I congratulate Sen Sirika on his well-deserved appointment, and wish him Allah’s guidance in the discharge of his duties as Chairman of the Governing Council of Umaru Musa Yar’adua University (UMYU) Katsina.”
Also, the statement announcing the appointment, which by providence was issued on the same day the Senator, and former Minister had a court appearance at an Abuja High court for fraudulent enrichment, stated that the appointment took effect from October 2025.
Ironically, on Tuesday, 28th October 2025, when the announcement hit the airwaves, the Senator’s attorneys were in an Abuja High Court in the Maitama district, making written submissions on a N2.7bn fraudulent and personal enrichment case filed against the distinguished Senator by the EFCC.
The matter before Justice S.C. Oriji was adjourned to Tuesday, 9th December 2025.
