Special Detachments of Traffic Managers Deploy to Traffic Gridlock Hot Spots

Lagos state government has dispatched a combined team of various genres of traffic personnel to all the Identified traffic choke points in the state with the objective of permanently freeing the traffic.
The Special team of traffic managers were assembled from various road safety and traffic management detachments units, departments and Adhoc bodies and were charged to be at their wits end in freeing the traffic from whatever factors that may be responsible for traffic snarl at the identified troubled spots.
At an emergency meeting with the Zonal Commanders of LASTMA at the Secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Transportation, Hon Oluwatoyin Fayinka, charged the team to work harmoniously and with firmness to prevent any factor responsible for a traffic bottleneck in the identified traffic hot spots from rearing their ugly heads.
Hon Fayinka noted that traffic chokepoints are often noticed at notable commercial areas of the state hence he advised on a preemptive approach which will enable the team to continuously put the situation in check.
He listed areas identified as traffic chokepoints and needed very urgent attention ar; Oshodi (Charity, Arena, Brown), Cele, Ojota, Ketu/Sunami, Mile 12/Owode, Iyana Ipaja/Abeokuta, Onipanu inward Anthony, Elediye inward Palm Grove, Jakande Gate, Ikotun junction, Igando, Ikeja Underbridge, Ikorodu roundabout and Idumota.
Earlier in his address, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Transportation, Mr Kamar Olowoshago charged the LASTMA Personnel to be professional in discharging their duties and advised the Officers to take advantage of the new insurance policy package approved for them by the Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The Permanent Secretary stated, “I want you to reduce your over-zealousness just as you increase your professionalism. You are the face and image of the State Government and thus should desist from any behaviour capable of bringing the image of Government to disrepute. Let your interaction with members of the public be more corrective inclined than punitive,” Olowoshago charged the officers.
In his response, the General Manager, Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, Mr Bolaji Oreagba, reaffirmed the commitments of the Agency to deliver on its core mandate and statutory responsibility.
“We want to thank Mr Governor for your unrelenting support in spite of the many challenges facing the Agency. We know to whom much is given much is expected. We will not relent but continue to live up to a very high standard of discipline and service delivery”
The various detachments of skilled personnel deployed not only to unravel the cause of the traffic snarl but to maintain a permanently freed traffic, were from, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Lagos State Parks Monitoring Committee, Removal of Abandoned Vehicle Committee and Ministry of Transportation Taskforce.
