The final phase of the countdown to the commissioning of the Red Line Rail mass transit begins tomorrow, Thursday, 3rd November 2023, when the Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, will inaugurate the Yaba overpass.
Mr. Gbenga Omotoso, the Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, gave the reassurance when fielding questions as a special guest on the Lagos Traffic Radio talk show.
He said the Yaba overpass inauguration by Governor Sanwo-Olu, is directly linked to the critical mass in the preparations for the grand commissioning of the Red Rail Line,
Omotoso alluded to the fact that one of the numerous items in the works and which will serve as Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu’s, (BOSS) end-of-year gift to the good people of Lagos State, is the inauguration of the highly-awaited Red Line Rail project, coming up before the year 2023 runs out.

The radio interaction was part of the official tour to parastatals and agencies under the oversight of the Ministry of Information and Strategy, which includes Lagos State Printing Corporation, LSPC, and Lagos State Record and Archives Bureau, LASRAB, among others.
Omotoso said the Red Rail Line project which runs through from Oyingbo to Agbado, is poised to bring about a better commuting experience in public transportation to the delight of Lagosians.
He said the new improved alternative to public transportation which the rail mass transit will offer, will bring about a significant stride toward fulfilling Governor Sanwo-Olu’s electoral promise to enhance the quality of life of Lagos State residents.

Omotoso also noted that as part of the preparations for the grand commissioning of the Red Rail Line, Governor Sanwo-Olu will inaugurate the Yaba overpass on Thursday, 3rd November 2023. He added that the overpass at Ikeja had also been completed and awaiting handover by the contractor.
He stressed that the second term of Mr. Governor will witness unprecedented delivery of dividends of democracy in the State, urging residents to shun vandalism and take ownership of projects delivered by the State Government.
The commissioner condemned the activities of Transport Union members for arbitrary collection of check-off dues from commercial drivers in a way that inhibits smooth traffic flow on the highway.

Omotoso emphasized that union dues are to be collected only within the confines of their motor parks and not at every bus stop. He promised that the government would rev up engagement with the union leaders to ensure their members do the right thing at all times.
He appealed to commuters to always make use of the pedestrian bridges provided by the state government saying, on no occasion should anyone dare cross the expressways. He described crossing the highway on foot as an unwise adventure because many lives had been lost to such thoughtless initiative.

The security agencies he noted, are cleansing the State of street urchins, and hoodlums, and the government will encourage them to step it up to speedily bring peace to the state.
He said, a situation where motorists were harassed and robbed by Area boys because their vehicles broke down or they were trapped in traffic was not acceptable and must be stamped out.
Earlier, at the Lagos State Record and Archives Bureau, LASRAB, Omotoso charged the management to explore innovative ways to enhance their services, particularly for tourists visiting the State.

He urged LASRAB management to reach out to royal families, relations of astute politicians, and people of historical relevance to seek artifacts and documents that might be of value to the bureau.
Ms. Anike Fasola, the Company Secretary of Lagos State Printing Corporation, LSPC, expressed immense gratitude to the Commissioner and the entire leadership at the Ministry of Information & Strategy, for their consistent support which enabled the corporation to live up to her mandate hassles-free.

She also made a solemn request for improvement in the volume of support to the corporation and equally implored for more patronage from other government ministries and agencies.
Fasola highlighted that Lagos State Printing Corporation serves both public and private companies.
Tayo Akanle, General Manager, Lagos Traffic Radio, commended Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for elevating Traffic Radio to a more competitive radio station in Nigeria. He said Traffic Radio had expanded its scope of operation to include the provision of traffic information concerning water transportation and the railway while catering to the needs of local air travelers.
