Value Jet airline this morning Tuesday, 7th October 2025, commences airport operations at the ultramodern Gateway International Airport, Ilisan, Remo, in Ogun State, with its inaugural commercial service to Abuja.
A statement by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Media & Strategy said the airport is top-notch for intensive commercial operation.
He said the infrastructure that stands out, a well-equipped airport for international operations, is all domiciled and serviceable at the airport.
Akinmade said Valuejet airline, one of the promising domestic operators has agreed to provide flight operations twice a week.
Moreover, the statement from the airline said it will from ay, 7th of October 2025, begin flight operations from the airport to Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, NAIA, Abuja.
The statement said on Tuesday, by 8.30am, the scheduled flight will takeoff and touchdown at Abuja by 9.45 am. The return trip is scheduled to leave NAIA Abuja by 4 pm and arrive Gateway Airport, Illisan 5.15 pm.
For the second flight of the week on Thursday, the same time schedule routine holds for passengers as a strategic approach by Value Jet to cultivate Illisan, Remo to Abuja route.
The elders of Ogun state have commended Governor Dapo Abiodun for providing such infrastructure as a legacy project for Ogun state.

MAKINDE AIMS HIGH FOR IBADAN AIRPORT
Oyo state Governor, Seyi Abiodun, said the state government goal is to ultimately make the Samuel Ladoke Akintola airport a business agglomeration center.
He said the government will persist in its business friendly policies which have continue to attract investors to the state and the world class infrastructure meant for the airport when concluded, will make the state the business center of Nigeria.
Makinde enumerated facilities installed such as the 500,000 Jet A1 fuel dump, Cat 3 fire cover and an entire ambience that can house various service businesses in the airport complex.

The Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport is located at Alakia, Ibadan, Oyo State. It has undergone a major upgrade to international standards. The airport was temporarily closed for this upgrade and received its first flight on 25th September, 2025, after being shut down for approximately five months.
The project executed therein includes runway expansion, enhanced passenger facilities, improved security, and the addition of an aviation fuel tank farm.
The upgrade is expected to boost the local economy, create jobs, and allow residents to travel internationally from their state, with full international flight operations anticipated by mid-2026.
