The maiden commercial flight from the most modern airport in Nigeria at the moment, Gateway International Airport, Ilisan, Remo, Ogun state, took off this morning as scheduled for 8.30 am.
The entire paraphernalia by the airport managers and the airline’s pre-boarding protocols went smoothly, and just before takeoff, the heavens opened, and a gentle shower started indicating divine blessing over the maiden event to both the airline and the airport.
Present at the maiden commercial flight from the brand new airport with the state-of-the-art facility were the management of the airport, led by Capt Dapo Olumide
Leading the regulator’s team, dominated by personnel from the DASS directorate, was the Director General Civil Aviation, DGCA, Capt Chris Najomo.
The aeroplane had a smooth take-off despite the wintry and slightly hazy conditions; the entire flight was reported to be fun, and landing in Abuja was smooth and seamless.
It is expected that, with this humble beginning, the volume of operations for the airport and airlines will continue to grow in leaps and bounds, within a short time.rr
Ogun State is welcomed to the league of states with ownership of airports. The airport is also expected to hit division one in the league in no time and be able to rub shoulders with Benin, Asaba, Uyo, Enugu, and perhaps Lagos airport.
The return trip is scheduled to leave NAIA Abuja by 4 pm and arrive Gateway Airport, Illisan, Remo by 5.15 pm. Jetblue service the airport twice a week. On Tuesdays and Thursdays. Takeoff time on each day is 8.30 am while the return flight is 4pm
