As the National Sports Festival 2025, kicks off Friday, 16th May 2025, the Ogun State Traffic Management Agency, Trace Monitor, has issued a traffic advisory for motorists across the state for the duration of the annual sports festival.
According to the media statement issued by TRACE Monitor, and signed by Babatunde Akinbiyi, spokesperson, it prompted motorists and commercial drivers that most routes within the Abeokuta, Ijebu-Ode, and Remo areas are expected to experience heavy vehicular movement because aspects of the games would hold in those areas.
It pointed out that while there would be total diversion in some routes, others would be monitored for strict adherence to traffic rules, and the observance of road signage.
The statement cautioned that on the day of the opening ceremony scheduled for Sunday, 18th May 2025, at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta, commuters and other road users who have no business along the routes leading to the stadium and its environs should avoid the axis on Sunday and make use of alternate routes to and from their different places of worship.
It added that “Similarly, the route leading to the Alake Sports Centre, Ijeja, where other categories of sporting activities will be held in Abeokuta, would be diverted to one-way traffic beginning on Monday, 19th May 2025, through 30th May 2025, for orderliness to prevail”.

Tourists and residents are also urged to note that “In the same vein, vehicles parked by the roadside along the route should be removed on or before Sunday, 18th May 2025, to avoid being towed”.
The travel advisory explained that “Likewise, beats within the Sagamu axis marked for use for the Gateway Games activities, including the NYSC Camp Gate; NYSC Camp Parking Gate; RSS Roundabout; Isale Oko Turning; Ita-Oba Junction; High Court Junction and Express Junction (Diversion Points) would be manned by TRACE operatives, ditto other security agencies to ensure there is no disorderliness, chaos and obstruction.”
At the IIlisan and Remo environs the statement said that the axis would be manned by the agency’s personnel in company of the Police and other law enforcement agents to ensure the safety of athletes who would be plying the routes.
The advisory added that traffic movement along Ijebu-Ode and environs would be diverted to prevent impediments for athletes and other dignitaries’ movement to the Dipo Dina stadium.
“Against this backdrop, the advisory for commuters, and motorists in and around Ijebu-Ode moving towards Idobi-Idomila axis from Itale-Odoegbo are advised to make a U-turn at Talbot Roundabout, enroute Mosun Cafe to link Igbeba road and make a right turn at NTA junction to connect GRA and then pass through Otunba Onanuga street to link Idomila road.

Hence, “those from Idomila moving towards Palace road and Itale axis are advised to ply Otunba Onanuga Street, GRA, to link Igbeba and make a right turn at Femtos junction to connect Talbot Roundabout”.
Moreover, the statement assured both the residents and visitors to the state for the sports fiesta that, “TRACE as well as other security operatives will be deployed along the Ogun 18 major traffic corridors where about 10,000 athletes and officials from the 36 states of the Federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, would be transiting from Babcock University, Ilisan-Remo, where they would all be camped to ensure effective and integrated traffic management, to limit delays, and traffic congestion.”
The statement urged members of the general public to cooperate with TRACE officers to minimise delays in travel time and ensure smooth flow of traffic.
