Aviation Minister Gets N3.53bn for Passengers Security, Airfield Lighting

The Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, has succeeded in clinching another N3,523,592,079bn approval for safety-critical projects of the Ministry of Aviation.

The Federal Executive Council, FEC, in its wisdom approved the sum of N3,523,592,079bn for two different major projects on facilitation and airfield lighting.

Making this public was the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Office of the Vice President, Mr Laolu Akande, after the weekly ritual by the FEC.

Speaking on behalf of the Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, Mr Laolu Akande, said the contracts for which approvals were granted are for Abuja, Lagos and Kano international airports.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Vice President on Media and Publicity explained that, of the total amount approved, the sum of, N2,329,961,099.60 was for the supply and installation of airfield ground lighting for the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja and also the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano.

According to Laolu Akande, “there was also the memo presented by the Minister for Aviation, which got approval for the supply and installation of two sets of complete high-capacity passenger security screening systems for the Murtala Mohammed International Airports, Lagos and Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja at the sum of N1,193,630,980.

These two major approvals amounted to N3,523,592,079bn.

It is hoped that the details especially that of the high-capacity passenger security screening outside of the K-nine dog approved and the aviation security uniform, while not undermining the proposed automation of airports’ passengers’ facilitation among others approved between 2019 and 2021 but are yet to be in the public domain.

Albeit, stakeholders are on edge as to the fruition of these wonderful projects which the FEC had been very generous in approval with the sole objective to up the ante in all facets of air transport and the time left for the regime.
