Hadi Sirika Reiterates Nigeria Air Will Fly in Less than a Fortnight- although no office, no aircraft, no AOC, but a substantive injunction

For the umpteenth time, and at a very uncomfortable proximity to the time out of President Muhammadu Buhari’s tenure, the Aviation Minister, Hadi Sirika, still reiterated with all boldness although without comforting evidence, enthused that Nigeria Air will caress the Nigerian skies in less than a fortnight.
This reassurance made the 14th time different dates were announced to Nigerians as takeoff dates since June 2021.
Hadi Sirika made this latest announcement at the Presidential Villa, Monday, 15th May 2023, after the extra-ordinary Federal Executive Council Meeting, presided by the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Oluleke Osinbajo.
As members of the State House Press Corps were pressing for what the Achilles’ heels to the much-vaunted national carrier were, the minister snapped briskly and said the much-touted launch shall be actualized before the 29th May 2023 and it remains sacrosanct.
Immediately thereafter the minister announced his exciting success at the FEC meeting in the approval he had gotten for another set of procurement valued at N3,047,127,022.72k.
He announced thus, “Something very significant has happened in the world of civil aviation; part of our road map, the Aviation Leasing Company has been established and approved by the council,” the minister said.
Sirika however went on to explain what the approval would translate to for operators saying, “Therefore, operators in civil aviation will have access to this equipment at an affordable rate and within our country, Nigeria; this is part of the roadmap. So, the roadmap is gradually coming to 100% completion”.
He also announced the second achievement thus, “Second memo was an award of contract for the procurement and installation of taxiway lights and photometric patterns for Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja, and some other equipment all over the country”.
He spoke further, “The total sum of the contract for photometric and taxiway lights is at N3,047,127,022.72k with 7.5% VAT and 12 months completion period,” the aviation minister gleefully told his audience who were yet to be relief from the shock of the national airline launch date, which sent jitters down their spines before reeling out the contract approval gotten from the FEC meeting.
History surely would pass its verdict sooner than later.
