FG CALLED UPON TO INTERVENE ON AIR PEACE’S BEHALF, TO EVACUATE NIGERIANS FROM CANADA

2 min read

Dr Gbenga Gabriel Olowo, President, ASRTI, Lagos, Nigeria

The Aviation Safety Roundtable Initiative (ASRTI) has expressed displeasure at the botched Air Peace Airline evacuation flight for stranded Nigerians in Canada due to the prevalent global lockdown caused by the Corona Virus, COVID – 19 pandemic.

As a renown pressure group committed to the growth and development of air transport in Nigeria, ASRTI, in a media statement rejected in its entirety, the nebulous safety concerns claimed by the Canadian government as the reason for denying Air Peace landing permit for the purpose of evacuating stranded Nigerians in that country due to the global lockdown occasioned by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Geoffrey Onyeama, Minister of Foreign Affairs

In the media statement by ASRTI which was signed by Comrade Olumide Ohunayo, ASRTI described the Canadian government decision as “not only as an unfriendly act but an unwarranted discriminatory and anti-competition act bordering on avoidable aero-politics”.

He stated that “the demand of our common humanity at these challenging times posed by the ravaging COVID- 19 requires the maximum cooperation of all”.

The body, ASRTI, called on the federal government, “especially the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Aviation to stand firm against this discriminatory and unfriendly act”.

Capt Hadi Abubakar Sirika, Minister of Aviation

The statement noted that “In the diplomatic spirit of respect and cooperation among nations, the ASRTI requests that Nigeria should persuade Canada to review her position and bring succour to the stranded Nigerians in her domain,” through her flag carrier

It affirmed that “Air Peace remains Nigeria’s flagship duly authorised by Nigeria for the evacuation mission of her distressed citizens in Canada”.

    1. It is often said, you cannot be wrong supporting your own. Patronizing indigenous goods and services, will surely help our economy to grow. Government has to do all in its powers to ensure Nigerian carrier brings Nigerians home from Canada.

  1. If the president call the Canadian prime minister today and complain to him about the sordid treatment you will that solution will come. That is what a responsible government does once you see that the problem is beyond the ministries. So let the Nigeria president intervene.

    1. At Nigeria Transport Hub, we’re in agreement into to, with your view. No doubt that’s the only intervention that will make Air Peace win the contract. Better still, government an engage Dr. Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu, immediate past DG of ICAO, to intervene on our behalf. Most likely he will break the ice
