LAGOS TO LOCKDOWN MARINE BRIDGE FOR 148 DAYS, FG TO EFFECT EMERGENCY REPAIRS

The Lagos State Government has concluded plans to partially close the Marine Beach Bridge for 148 days to effect emergency repairs beginning from tomorrow, Wednesday, 27th May to Wednesday, 21st October 2020.
A media statement from the Ministry of Transportation, Lagos State, quoted its Commissioner, Dr Frederic Oladeinde, as saying the vital repair work will be done by the Federal Ministry of Works to enhance the safety of motorists that ply the bridge to access different parts of the State.
The statement said the alternate routes designated for motorists around the construction site had been put in top-notch to reduce the burden of the construction on motorists and the general public during the construction period.
The statement said the proposed repair comprised of bearing and expansion joint replacement which will be executed in two phases. Each phase it said will focus on one lane of the Bridge at a time while the first phase will be the handling of the inbound Apapa lane, while the second phase will be designated to work on the lane that conveys vehicles outside the axis, thus the bridge lockdown becomes partial.
The Transportation Ministry’s statement explained the traffic management that will be adopted while the repairs last as follows, “Motorists’ inwards Wharf road will be diverted to the other section of the bridge outward Apapa, a contraflow of 200metres has been put in place for vehicles to realign with a proper direction inward Ajegunle or Wharf Road, Apapa, while Motorists descending to Total Gas under the bridge will drive without any hindrance”, the statement said.
The statement added that officers of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), and other security operatives such as men of the Nigerian Police Force, will be stationed at the construction locations to ameliorate the effect of the adjusted traffic flows within that axis.
The State Government appealed to motorists and residents of the area to cooperate with the traffic management bodies deployed to the area to manage the traffic situation and pledged its unalloyed commitment to providing a transportation system that will meet the needs of a larger population in an emerging Smart city that the state of aquatic splendour is
