A hundred (100) Online Tourism Academy Scholarships have been awarded to Nigerians willing to undertake basic training in the field of tourism.
The Secretary-General, United Nations World Tourism Organization, UNWTO, Mr Zurab Pololikashvili, made the announcement at a dinner in Madrid, Spain, in honour of the Information, Arts and Culture Minister, Alhaji Lai Mohammed and his delegation on Tuesday night.
Also sealed with the UNWTO was an agreement signed for Nigeria to host the First UNWTO Global Conference on Cultural Tourism and Creative Industry, to be held in Lagos from 14th-17th November 2022.
According to a media statement from the Special Assistant to the President, (Media), Office of the Minister of Information and Culture, Segun Adeyemi, the scholarships will lead to the award of the certificate on the introduction to Tourism – Industry Management Course.
The UNWTO Chief Scribe and Chief Executive, Zurab Pololikashvili, was quoted to have said, ”the World Tourism Organization recognizes the efforts of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and its Minister of Information and Culture. Hon. Mr Lai Mohammed, to empower youth and boost quality education in tourism by granting 100 UNWTO Tourism Online Academy Scholarships.”
The media statement noted that “UNWTO Tourism Online Academy is a partnership between the world tourism organization and the IE University in Madrid, Spain”.
While expressing his gratitude for the offer, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said the criteria for selecting the beneficiaries for the scholarship will be announced very soon.
