Emir-of-Kano-His Royal Highness, Aminu Ado Bayero, yearns for MAKIA restart
The continued suspension of international flights to the completely remodelled international wing of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport is contingent on the need to up the ante on security architecture and biosecurity paraphernalia at the airports.
Aviation Minister, Senator Hadi Sirika, made the disclosure when he received very high powered delegates from Kano State to his office in Abuja, on Tuesday.
The delegates were led by the number one citizen of Kano State, Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who was accompanied by the representatives of His Royal Highness, Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, members of the Kano Chambers of Commerce And Industry, and Honourable Members of the Kano State House of Assembly.
Senator Sirika reminded his august guests that Aminu Kano International Airport was not alone in the encumbrances to restarting international flight as the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu, and Port Harcourt International Airport, Port Harcourt, were all in the same shoes with MAKIA, Kano.
He further explained that the federal government had made so much investment in MAKIA and will not seat by watch the monumental investment to rot away as a result of making the facility inoperative with the attendants’ degeneration of infrastructure, redundancy amongst operational staff, revenue losses, hardship to travellers, amongst others.
Sirika explained that the continued suspension of international flights to and from the Kano airport and other similar airports, tantamount to keeping on hold an important revenue line to the Ministry and its agencies most of who were in dire need of revenue to further hone their operations.
The aviation helmsman in Nigeria noted that the government took cognizance of the hardship to the users of the airport, passengers and service providers alike, and promised that all that was necessary for the resumption of international flight operations at the airport would be fast-tracked to ensure flight operations start sooner than later.
Earlier, on being welcomed to the Aviation Minister’s office, Governor Ganduje expressed gratitude on behalf of the good people of Kano State, to the Federal Government led by President Muhammadu Buhari, for the successful completion of the International wing of the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport.
Ganduje also solicited a prompt and speedy resumption of international flight operations at the airport.
Governor Ganduje however assured the minister that the Kano State government had since put in place all that was necessary to make the state healthy to receive international flights, including mobilization of the populace for the COVID-19 vaccinations and total compliance to all COVID-19 none pharmaceutical safety protocols.
