Passengers using any of the nation’s airports and coincidentally witness emergency in such facility have been urged to ensure their hands are on deck in supporting the process of resolution and restoration rather than having their hands on phones to record and hustling to be the first to put it out in the social media.

Hence, passengers and other airport users had been warned to respect the privacy of any distressed person(s) within the airports’ chain managed by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN and desist from just merely watching, and recording such persons for public broadcast.

According to the statement by the management of FAAN, in respect of a “video making the rounds on social media, where a passenger about to board an Air Peace flight from Abuja collapsed”, it stated that “the passenger in question received immediate attention”.

The statement signed by the General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Henrietta Yakubu, (Mrs), said “a FAAN officer, Mr. Ajani, immediately revived the unconscious passenger by performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the passenger before the arrival shortly after, of the medical team, which administered first aid treatment and subsequently evacuated the passenger to the Air Force Base clinic”.

However, the statement appeal to all airport users “to always be orderly and proactive in the face of emergency situations as on that day, a Port Health officer on duty was intimidated and hindered from assisting the sick passenger”.

The media release noted that interference, threats and agitations would only undermine the focus on saving lives, and further slowdown emergency response process.
