Immigration personnel request for covid-19 test kits at land borders

Both the federal and state governments agencies concerned with the mitigation of the spread, and management of COVID-19 infection, have been urged to, as a matter of urgency, provide a laboratory and other medical facilities to the Nigerian Immigration Service at the Seme Border Area Command.
The Comptroller of Nigeria Immigration Service, Seme Command, Mr Bernard Zipamor, gave the appeal during a courtesy visit to his office at the Seme border by the Lagos State Executive Council, of the Nigerian Union Of Journalists, NUJ, led by Comrade Adeleye Ajayi.
Bernard Zipamor explained that his men at the land border “are supposed to have facilities for sample collection and testing when travellers are returning” but sadly, nothing exists for the conduct of such a test.
Zipamor appreciated the efforts of the Lagos State Ministry of Health in assisting the Division during the heat of the pandemic.
He, however, commended the Comptroller General (CG) of the Nigeria Immigration Service, Muhammed Babandende, for the deployment of Migration Information Data Analysis System (MIDAS) to various commands of the service, to achieve ease of doing government business.

He expressed appreciation to the efforts of the Lagos State Ministry of Health in assisting the Division during the heat of the pandemic early last year, 2020.
On the part of Mr Ajayi, he commended the command for its giant strides in border surveillance and patrol, which yielded tremendous results and also praised the NIS for leveraging the use of Information Communication Technology (ICT) to achieve quality service delivery.
The NUJ chairman lauded the service for its professional website which had made the application for international passports easier for intending travellers.
He reaffirmed his commitment to facilitating training for journalists in Lagos Council.
Comrade Ajayi said that a seminar on fake news would be organised for members within the next few weeks.
On the NUJ Lagos Council entourage were Comrade Biola Beckley, the Vice-Chairman; Comrade Tunde Olalere, the Secretary; Comrade Philip Nwosu, the Assistant Secretary; Comrade Oluwakemi Ishola, Ex. Officio; and Comrade Innocent Anaba, the Financial Secretary.
