Lagos NUJ promises members life insurance, customs adequate coverage of its exploits

Journalists in the Lagos State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, will soon benefit from a welfare package in terms of life insurance and affordable housing for bonafide members.
The newly elected Chairman of the Lagos State NUJ Council, Comrade Leye Ajayi, gave the hint during a courtesy visit to the Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, Seme Border Area Command.
He said the harrowing socio-economic situation in the country coupled with the enormous risk to life that journalists are exposed to in the course of discharging their sacred and constitutional duties, compelled the new Lagos State Executive of the union to have a program that would cater for sudden unforeseen occurrences and to provide shelter for members.
The NUJ Chairman’s pronouncement was a sequel to the call by the Comptroller, the Nigeria Customs Service, Seme Area Command, Comptroller Bello Jibo, who called on the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ), especially the Lagos Council, to give drastic attention to the issue of quack Journalists around the Seme Border Area.
Jibo urged the Lagos Council Chairman to take members’ welfare seriously and pledged that the Seme border area command of NCS, was willing to partner with NUJ in the area of Training.
According to Comptroller Jibo, this is just the beginning of a new dawn with NUJ Lagos Council.
The comptroller appreciated the level of support the Seme Area Command had enjoyed from the community as he described the Seme/Badagry border as the most peaceful and busiest border in Nigeria.
On his part, the Chairman, NUJ Lagos Council, Comrade Adeleye Ajayi, described the visit as a home-coming, having covered the maritime beat.
He commended the Nigeria Customs Service for exceeding the N1trillion target in spite of the economic crisis emanating from the COVID-19 pandemic
The chairman assured the Comptroller of regular publicity for a good job by the Seme border area command of the Nigeria Customs Service.
Ajayi lauded the Customs’ Initiative on Joint Inspection with other sister agencies and solicited the assistance of the command towards the completion of the union’s secretariat.
On the NUJ Lagos entourage were Comrade Biola Beckley, the Vice-Chairman; Comrade Tunde Olalere, the Secretary; Comrade Philip Nwosu, the Assistant Secretary; Comrade Oluwakemi Ishola, Ex. Officio; and Comrade Innocent Anaba, the Financial Secretary.
